It's your turn to drive!

Published in the Random EN group
Javarash... hmm, my brother once suggested this site after my next visit to Tai. Why? For a long time I wanted to fly away and work from there. Paradise is there. The specifics of the work did not allow. Remarque for fans of success story - has not yet flown away. 10 years design engineer. Education - microelectronics engineer, had to grow crystals for processors. From the institute group, no one went to the specialty in such a way. As a result, somewhere in 2012-2013 I bought myself a lifetime membership on the site, since the dollar then cost differently + New Year's discount. Now one can only dream of such a thing. And maybe it relaxed me, the first 10 levels were easy. More difficult. Strongly lettered on the 17th - multithreading. Now at 23-24. I don’t remember exactly, for some reason it’s hard again. I have lost the habit of the validator, I never loved, to be honest, I hate it. At the same time, from the very beginning, I often abandoned classes, switched to another resource (Hexlet, for example, communication is a little livelier there), but then returned. And so it was for a very long time, until 2016, when things in the current company became very thin. Due to the lack of projects, they offered each employee to go on vacation for 3 months - this was a wake-up call. But I even rejoiced. A month and a half on the site, code, sports. On the hexlet, they were advised to start sending out resumes, or rather, go to interviews. I sent one - I received a task for automated testing (Selenium). As it seemed then, he did great. But no. Registered on hh. I set the lowest cost so as not to starve to death - 25, the most thing is to enter a new sphere and gain a foothold. I sent a request for a couple of offers. Invited. Probably one of the happiest moments of life - I don't know anything and my name is already! A small office, part 1c, part javista write software for a complex for removing information from sensors attached to the body. The complex was sold to fitness clubs (six pieces have already been delivered to the customer). The tasks are simple, SQL did not know then and failed. But they accepted me. Class - the first job in IT! I got acquainted with the team, all the students combine, the director is a guy 5 years younger than me. People are recruiting, because soon most of the team will disperse - one to the bank, the other has to strain on Instagram. Those. the whole backbone diverges - it's bad, I wanted someone to see what and how I'm doing, and so that I could correct it, direct it. Well, okay, anyway. Office on the territory of the business center, converted from the building of the former factory - probably familiar. It's cold, the heating hasn't been turned on yet. Entourage, by God, as in my former dorm room - half-broken chairs, something is always lying under your feet. After 10 years in a normal company - the conditions look spartan. Soon they hired another guy, it turned out that he was also from Javarash - how small the world is. Then I found out that they took him for 35. He sold cheap. Hm, let's learn. But I'm only at the beginning, at the very bottom. On hh, so that the brain would not endure sentences, put a high figure, so that it would finally scare away hrs. I was too lazy to look for how to hide a resume in the search - consider it luck. Three weeks after getting my first job, I receive another letter. They are also looking for a Javist. And in the requirements - a serious stack of technologies. And I only have java in my resume and it is listed. I answered them - they say, you know how to read - what you want and what is indicated with me + what money I want. In response - we are looking for people with different backgrounds. Great. Arranged for an interview. Mmm, the business center is wholly owned by the company, beautiful, licked, energy is the main area. Hr walked to the office. 2 hours interview alone with the team leader. It feels like the best watch in my life - I did not think that I know Java so well, even if only in theory. A couple of tasks - the team leader gave his laptop with pre-installed IDEA. Like, on, decide, I’ll sit next to you - and by the way, I sat next to me, looked at my screen. Made, gives one more task on SQL. I don't know how to decide - damn. He says - nothing, the Internet is. Try it with internet. And it seems to work. Cool! Already on the way home I receive a call from the team leader - I need to do another test task, he says. I sent all the data to the mail - and there both the interface and the base. The logic itself is simple. I received the assignment on Thursday, it should have been given on Monday. I was soaring for a long time, at 3 (!) Monday nights I write to the team leader that I didn’t do it completely, there is logic, there is work with the database, how to join the server part and the client part - I don’t know. He almost immediately replied - send. The next day, the manager called, he also asked questions, clarified about the money - then I honestly said that I now receive 25. He said that it was not serious - he threw ten more. After that, I saw no point in staying with the first company. I went to the director - I say this and that, I'll go. It looks like he got angry, talking about an employment contract, about conscience, about a team. But according to the law, I don’t have to work for 2 weeks on probation. Signed the docks, resigned. They promised to send the money worked out for three weeks - no, it looked like it was very insulting, they squeezed the top ten. Happens. In a new place to this day. At first, my head is spinning - a sea of code, business logic, huge queries to the database, layout, jira, git. Whatever you take - a lot of questions. Every time at work with glassy eyes - how / what / why. Deadlines, layout, evening builds, hot fixes. All this, of course, is blurred in time - probably half a year - but it feels like it all happened at once. But leaving the first company was true - everything was very disorganized there. I remember my first lines, and the existing code as a whole - wow, horror. And in this company - mmm, I want to kiss every method, class, the names are like that - you don’t have to climb inside to understand what will happen inside - it’s like reading a book. The team - all the guys with a strong background, it’s a shame to myself, but it’s very interesting to work with them, professionals in their field (profile education is a huge advantage, but since we are on this site, we are dealing with what we have. It’s too late to complain ). Testers are indispensable holy men, God, all my bugs are on their necks. Analysts - for a long time I have not communicated with people as much as with analysts - what the button should do, how it should look, and if you click like this, and if there was something else here. Admins are still dark horses, but also an indispensable part of the team. All bugs are through Jira. Knowledge base - in wiki. Manager - former team leader of the same team - i.e. knows how and what, how much to pay for it. The main project is a document management system. If it itself may not be interesting, but from the point of view of implementation - mmm, so much, try to cover it. At the time of the device - half the team sat on eclipse, the rest - IDEA. Now all but one are on IDEA. At first I used an "alternative" license for IDEA, after six months I bought an official one - after all, the guys there are the same as me, make a great product and want to eat. A year and a half has passed, I've got used to it, but the tasks are still difficult for me - but I'm already well versed in the code. This used to be a major problem, as was the business logic. And then I decided to go for interviews again, prompted by a colleague who had already left for a month. Well, it never hurts to see how much they are willing to pay for me. Opened hh - first set 50, but when there were too many responses, I set 110k. Plus, the stack has become a little wider. I visited 10 interviews since the end of June. 2 offers received. One for 50, the second for 110. And even for 110, questions and tasks are not the most difficult (by the way, there are a lot of places where they work on the Hibirnate + Spring bundle (guy often on Angular)). Not everything is as bad as it turned out. I am needed, I will not starve. You can move on. And about myself I'm a little over 30 and, as I wrote, a non-core education. So I had a lot of doubts. Yes, they are still there. But something is already happening. And I am writing this not for myself, and not for all of you, but for that insecure dude who still thinks that he will not succeed - hey you, yes YOU, you will succeed, of course, face a brick and work-work . Our team is still recruiting, and colleagues often go to interview guys like this. One girl was again from Javarash, colleagues knowing that I also passed it (well, how I passed - up to level 24), treated her with great attention, received the same task as me. But surprisingly, she did not do it, although they had a high opinion of her after an in-person interview. What salary should be set for a beginner? 40-60. Keep in mind that over 60 can be good to tear out if you are still a June and without experience. Be prepared to know the size of an int, tree traversal, a couple of common logic tasks - but I must admit, I did not receive such in my interviews. If you think that you know java core well, then don't flatter yourself. There's a lot of things, I still get on my fingers from colleagues for using something extinct. Good luck to all! Best Job I Ever Had PS. Always doubted these success stories on this site, never believed. I had to go and check ;)
