“Completed the quest in 3 months, working full time and being a father of two children”

From dry numbers to stories! Survey participants shared with us their achievements of the past year. It’s impossible to publish everything, so we’ve collected “the best.”

Student stories

“My main achievement: when I see the code of the correct solution, I understand what’s there and why... Last year the main reaction was “What is this!?”,” says Maxim.
“Programming is one of my main hobbies. At the moment, I consider my main achievement to be good results in time management, that is, I was able to reorganize my time in such a way as to increase the productivity of my main job, as well as allocate enough free time for my hobbies.
“I consider the main and only motivation for any person to be a lively “childish” interest in doing or comprehending something new in one’s life. Unfortunately, this interest dulls with age for most people, for one reason or another, and is replaced by routine, and life turns into “Groundhog Day.” At a certain point, I realized this, analyzed it and began to work hard on myself to break this vicious circle. This year I achieved this, so I consider this my main achievement,” Igor shared his story.
“Smooth progress in knowledge thanks to a game-based learning format with achievements in JavaRush,” says Alexander.
“Discovering the JavaRush service, stable studies since July 2021 with an irresistible desire to get an internship,” writes Yulia.
“I got a job at the best IT company in my city,” says Vlad.
“I completed almost all of Java core. I understand that I will definitely finish my studies and become a developer!” says Maxim.
“Having graduated with honors from the physics department of the university, I did not work a single day in the specialty I received (physical engineer). For 27 years I worked in various business sectors in various positions. While winning in tactical tasks (I received a decent salary and supported my family), I lost in strategic ones (all this time I was doing something I didn’t like). And so, on the eve of my 50th birthday, I decided to do something that had interested me since childhood. For the past month I’ve been rushing from work to sit down at the computer as soon as possible in order to tinker with tasks and try to make sense of new information. And with each level I understand that this is what I enjoy doing. Don't compromise with yourself. Do what you love!” Elnur shared his story.
“I have been designing wooden houses for a long time, almost 10 years. I work remotely with many construction companies and have always been confident that there is always work. Because if one company is not doing well, there are many others. However, this summer there was a crisis in the construction industry as a whole. Prices for materials have increased significantly. As a result, there were very few orders. I realized that you always need to have a backup option. I decided to study programming - after all, it’s somehow closer to me. I googled on the Internet - “which programmers earn the most” - it turned out to be Android application developers. And the most popular language for this is Java. Accordingly, the choice was obvious. Well, the most popular site for learning Java on the RuNet turned out to be JavaRush - that’s how I came here! I haven’t had much success yet - I’ve reached level 13. I want to start writing my own programs and applications for Android as soon as possible! There are a lot of ideas, but there is not enough knowledge yet... But everything is ahead! As they say, I see the goal, I see no obstacles! Good luck to everyone!” says Andrey.
“I was able to return to programming after a 23-year break,” says Anton.
“I left my boring, exhausting job and began to fully study Java,” Boris shared.
“I completed 28 levels of JavaRush in 3 months, working full time and being the father of two children,” said Sergey.
“I retired and started learning Java,” Maxim shared.
“From mid-October to December, 15 levels have already been completed and I’m confidently moving on,” said Dmitry.

Stories of those who are already working

“Changing work from a small company to working in a startup,” says Dmitry.
“In March 2021, I entered a Java developer training course, in September 2021 I received 19 offers, and chose one with a salary of 300+ thousand rubles. Nothing is impossible when there is a goal. I had no experience in commercial development before,” says Evgeniy.
“I studied courses, practiced, wrote a couple of projects and went to work with the Middle+ level, bypassing Junior, and all this in 7 months,” adds Oleg.

“I started my studies at JavaRush in April of this year. I worked as a bartender in a restaurant and had little free time, so I decided to study on my own. At that time I had no experience in programming and this resource seemed to me the ideal solution to start. At that time, I still didn’t know what language I wanted to work in in the future, so I learned Python at the same time. At first it was unclear, literally everything. When you have already learned the syntax of Java and Python, it’s time to choose one direction. I took the shortcut and started looking at vacancies. It turned out that there were many more vacancies in Java, plus a friend was already working as a backend developer and suggested that Java was in great demand in the market, so I decided to stay at JavaRush. The quest became for me a good training manual and guide to learning Java, but I was not limited to it. When I realized that after reading the lecture I couldn’t do the task or even just understand what was written, I started Googling, which is definitely a mandatory skill for a programmer. So I slowly finished Syntax, Core, and at the same time studied Collections and Multithreading. At one point, a friend advised me to create a resume and just put it in the public domain, let it hang) So I seriously thought about going somewhere for an internship. After I posted my resume, they almost immediately started making internship offers.

After a couple of unsuccessful interviews and technical assignments, I realized where I needed to move and what I was missing. I mastered SQL, JSP and Servlets, JSON and XML formats, and by that time I was actively looking for a company for an internship. I went through a couple of interviews with several companies, and did a couple more. assignments, and at the same time I was also writing my pet projects. At the end of October, after another interview and terms of reference, I was offered the position of Junior Developer. Now I’m slowly getting into the technical process, but I’m still thinking about completing the course to the end, since there is still a lot of useful information left. In general, 2021 was the year of my start in the IT industry and the beginning of my career, so the year was not in vain. I wish everyone success, even if I succeeded, then you will definitely succeed!” said Alexander.

“I almost completed the JavaRush course, studied Spring, changed my job from a 1C programmer at a factory to an iib and Java developer,” says Dmitry.
“After studying Java at JavaRush, I got a job at Sber as a Java programmer,” said Svetlana.
