By default, the results are not grouped by usage type, but you can activate this feature by pressing
Ctrl + Alt + T or clicking the corresponding button on the panel.
Advanced Options If you want to set additional options for searching usages, you can press Shift + Alt + Ctrl + F7 (Shift + Alt + Cmd + F7 for Mac) , or click the first button in the right search results pane.
Open in a new tab If you want to save the results of previous searches, tell the IDE to open new results in a new tab by selecting the "open in new tab" menu item
Pop-up Menus If you want to get the search result without switching out of the editor window, just press Alt + Ctrl + F7 (Alt + Cmd + F7 for Mac) .
Highlighting uses, return statements and throwing exceptions with color By default, IntelliJ IDEA highlights in color the places where the variable/method on which the cursor is placed, return statements and throwing exceptions in the file that is opened by the code editor.
However, many developers prefer to disable this feature by deselecting the menu item Settings - Editor - Highlighting the use of an element under the cursor . You can launch this feature manually by pressing Shift + Ctrl + F7 (Shift + Cmd + F7 for Mac) when you need it. This way, you can highlight more than one element if you need to, and remove the entire selection by pressing the Esc button .
Color highlighting of implemented or overridden methods Another useful aspect of IntelliJ IDEA 's color highlighting is that you can easily find methods that are implemented or overridden for each specific class or interface. Simply hover over the implements or extends statementand press Shift + Ctrl + F7 (Shift + Cmd + F7 for Mac) . If your class inherits from several classes or interfaces, the development environment will tell you which methods to highlight.
