JavaRush Kotlin 2.3 Course

1. A bit about JavaRush

JavaRush is a legendary company. 😎 It appeared in the fall of 2012 and quickly gained popularity. Studying on JavaRush felt warm and cozy: adventures and conversations with characters from “Futurama”, a game-based learning format, and a very large community whose members actively helped each other.

The JavaRush project also stood out for its strong emphasis on practice. In 2015, the course included 1200 practical tasks with auto-checking, requirements, and recommendations. You could solve tasks either via WebIDE (a special widget on the site) or via a plugin for the professional IDE IntelliJ IDEA.

A special point of pride was creating a super-efficient Help department (Support). Every time a user asked a question about a task, the following were automatically added to the question: the task statement, the status of its requirements, as well as the user’s code, which was displayed in a very convenient widget.

2. Expansion

In 2018, under the CodeGym brand, our JavaRush became available worldwide. Now the course is translated into 30 languages and has tons of students from the US, Mexico, Germany, India, and China.

One school in the US even put up a thank-you plaque for CodeGym outdoors right next to the school’s name.

Besides the plaque, we have plenty of other things we can show.

For example, photos with thanks from schoolkids in Croatia. Or awards from students at an American college, happy participants of a robotics competition in the US, photos of students from McDonough School who, after completing CodeGym, took 1st place in Kotlin at the Lockheed Martin competition, photos of people in India who came to our offline programming lectures and then took the online course.

The photos show the scale—and it’s all real and live.

3. JavaRush University

In the fall of 2021, the JavaRush team launched a new learning format—JavaRush University. Our goal became to graduate not beginners, but people as close as possible to a Middle Developer. Such people can both easily handle any job and find one.

The new learning format was based on these key points:

  • Training lasts 12 months.
  • The learning plan is as close as possible to job openings on the labor market.
  • Learning in small groups with a mentor.
  • The ability to study fully online.
  • The pace of learning is set by the mentor: there are timelines and deadlines.
  • Lots of practice and large projects.
  • A very large final project.
  • Training in all the nuances of job searching and interviewing.

The new learning approach turned out to be very effective. First, mentors set the learning pace, which helps most people avoid laziness or burnout. Each project has reasonable timelines and deadlines, and mentors are ready to adapt to students’ needs.

Second, the mentors are people with extensive experience in development and teaching. They were given a lot of creative freedom. This had a very strong impact on student motivation. If a mentor’s eyes are shining, over time their students’ eyes start shining too.

Third, a strong emphasis on practice. The finished Fullstack Software Engineer course contains up to 2000 practical tasks that can be solved via WebIDE or the IntelliJ IDEA plugin. And there are also 10 projects in the course and one truly giant final project.

Perhaps that’s why half of JavaRush University graduates get hired right away as middles. On the other hand, why not—if some mentors manage to explain to their students Docker, clouds, and even microservices. If cloning were legal, we would have cloned those mentors long ago 😅

4. Kotlin Software Engineer course

If you are reading these lines, that means in the winter of 2026 we launched our Kotlin 2.3 course!

Over the last several years, Kotlin has been changing very actively, and we regularly received questions from students: are we planning to launch a course on modern Kotlin, or even better—a full-fledged Fullstack Kotlin Developer program? After all, with knowledge of all the new features, Kotlin developers find it easier to land an interesting and well-paid job.

Why not! Kotlin is quickly gaining popularity—and that’s a great reason to add a new Kotlin course on JavaRush.

We carefully studied all the new features in Kotlin 2.x and created the newest learning plan for Kotlin 2.3. Officially, Kotlin 2.3.10 will be released only in February 2026, so when you finish the course, you will know all the newest Kotlin goodies ✅

We named the course Kotlin Software Engineer. At the core of the program is an in-depth study of Kotlin 2.3 syntax, modern OOP, collections, and extensions. Also: working with files, serialization, coroutines, and asynchrony. Okay, I won’t spoil it—you’ll see everything yourself 😎
