29 years old, from manager to java developer

Published in the Random EN group
I don’t know if anyone will see this topic; I don’t have enough points for the blog. But nevertheless, I am obliged to say my thanks to JavaRush (I hope not into emptiness). My story: In 2010, I graduated from university with a technical specialty that had nothing to do with programming. For the first 3 years I worked as an engineer, for the second 3 as a sales manager. But a crisis began and all the prospects that had somehow loomed before melted away. And I, thinking that it was not a matter of specialty, but of the company, began to look for a job, still there - in sales. And, after 6 months - I found her, the employer promised me good conditions that suited me and thank God... they threw me away :)... This is where my study of programming began. One of the very first resources I came across was JavaRush, and it was an epic win! For the first 1.5 months I studied about 6 hours a day, seven days a week, during which time I took about 15 lessons (I can lie, it was half a year ago), then I quit my job and was able to devote more time to Java (about 11-12 hours a day), but from the 3rd month I no longer studied JavaRush, although by this time I had only completed 24 lessons. And after the 3rd month the most difficult and interesting things began: spring, hibernate, sql, html, css.. etc. Despite the fact that from the 3rd month I no longer used JavaRush, nevertheless, without it, I would not have been able to master those technologies and those books/resources that I read later. About the job search: I posted my resume from the 3rd month of training (at this point I wrote a program on Android), I was not actively looking for a job, I was just updating my resume, writing a java web application. On the 4th-5th month, I completed the web application, everything worked, but almost no job offers were received, although I was already actively looking for it. Closer to the 6th month, I changed my tactics: I stopped looking for work in large companies, and started looking at small companies, tester vacancies and those related to programming. One fine day I came to interview for a tester position, but they hired me as a programmer. The trial period has not ended yet, but they say that everything is fine, I hope I won’t ruin it :). I don’t know if it’s possible to share resources for learning Java here, but nevertheless, I’ll try to post the best of the best: 1. This is, of course, Java Rush :). 2. Technopark Mail.ru - video course on Java (sources are available on github) (the course on SQL is also not bad, but quite complicated from scratch) 3. JavaCourse - Java EE at its best, although it uses rather outdated JSP technology, it’s excellent an example for working with a database, spring and hibernate. 4. www.sql-ex.ru - a programmer is nowhere without a java database! Train! 5. htmlacademy.ru - without understanding the work of html, css - also nowhere! Something like this. Total 6 months, 15 days.
