Lately I have been attending a lot of different IT events, like Breakpoint, career day, etc.
Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 1
I had a wonderful opportunity to personally communicate with representatives of some companies with whom I would like to introduce you and, at the same time, share my impressions. Since we are programmers, and I am writing an article on a thematic resource, the bias will be made towards vacancies that are related to Java. I won’t delay for too long, let’s get started.

1. Megaphone

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 5
Needs no introduction: Russian mobile operator from the Big Four. At the moment, Megafon is actively developing in the IT sector, which is why it is in dire need of specialists. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find out the specifics in Java. The booklet highlighted the following points that were close to us. Key skills, interesting companies.
  • "OC": Windows, Linux, UNIX
  • “Programming”: SQL, Java, PHP, Python, JavaScript, C++
  • “Databases”: Oracle, MSSQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Teradata DB, Firebird

2. T-Systems

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 6
The company develops software for large foreign customers, and at the same time is a center of expertise in the field of Java development and software testing. Based in St. Petersburg, there is a small office in Moscow and Voronezh. We are recruiting active people who are ready to develop in the IT field. Because the company specializes in Java, our topic, I was able to ask representatives about this area in more detail. You can get to their staff in three ways:
  1. Java school

First, a resume is accepted, then technical homework is given (you need to complete it, put it on git, attach automatic testing), after that you are tested on computers using Java SE, then an interview + testing for English language proficiency. English is very important; you need to be able to read technical literature and communicate with company employees from other countries.

Schooling. Lectures + assignments + curator. If you are allowed to defend a project that is written individually during the training process, then you can get to the defense. Successfully defended interns will be employed by the company.

  2. Internship

The requirements are similar to the first point. Here you immediately find yourself in a working project. Based on the result, they will either be invited to join the staff or say goodbye.

Depending on the workload and your abilities, you are assigned either there (A) or there (B).

  3. Software tester

Here, in fact, there are slightly less strong requirements for programming knowledge (corresponding libraries are written for testers), but you need to know not only English, but also German. There are greater requirements for languages than in the first two options.

3. P&G - Russia

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 7
American multinational company that produces consumer goods. (Dialogue) - What do you have in IT? — Unfortunately, there are no internships in St. Petersburg at the moment. Recently people graduated and got jobs. Now only Moscow. We recruit people, they do internships, and then we hire them on our staff. — What languages do you have a vacancy for Java developer, C# developer? -You take it too narrowly! We have IT in general. The technology stack depends on the specific project. Apparently they need specialists of a very wide range. http://russia.pgcareers.com https://hh.ru/employer/4949

4. Aisec

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 8
A large public organization that engages in “meeting” applicants. It has existed in Russia since 1989. We were among the first to organize internships for our students abroad after the fall of the Iron Curtain. They offer many job opportunities, including in the development field. You leave a request on the website, they contact you and offer internships, jobs, etc. We are currently recruiting for programming internships (Java, among others) in Egypt. The cost is about 30-60 tr, I was not impressed by their proposals, because... placed too much emphasis on commerce. It seems like they want to push you into something. But you shouldn’t so blindly reject this option, because the organization has a very rich history. https://www.aisec.org/

5. Ulmart

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 9
Online store selling non-food products. Now it is going through hard times, as far as I know, but in terms of the quality of service and convenience of shopping, it is perhaps one of the best stores in which I have ever bought household appliances, camping equipment, etc. I asked about Java. Now they are rewriting their website in an OOP manner to make its components more independent, which is why they are not recruiting juniors at the moment. Middle and above are required. https://www.ulmart.ru/ https://hh.ru/employer/219638

6.Selectel

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 10
Russian IaaS provider. St. Petersburg and Moscow. The company provides hosting and cloud services for all levels of business: from individual entrepreneurs to large companies. Unlike the previous stands that I approached, there were, in addition to HR, the company’s current developers. But, historically, they don’t use Java - they use Python / Go. Everything was explained to me in detail. It's nice when you speak the same language with technical specialists. The company makes software for itself and for the domestic market. There are few foreign customers. I managed to visit their office in St. Petersburg more than once. A very pleasant place to look at, a clean, well-kept office, quite friendly and sociable staff. The company is actively expanding, and internships are being conducted in various areas. You can watch my funny story at one of the events of this company HERE https://selectel.ru/careers/all/ https://hh.ru/employer/633069

7. Grid Dynamics

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 11
A transnational company that builds high-tech, scalable solutions in e-commerce, finance and other areas. Russia: St. Petersburg and Saratov. Java development is required, but, unfortunately, at the moment, only middle developers are considered. Juniors are not currently recruiting. All booklets focus on the English language; a good level of proficiency is required. In general, the company makes a pleasant impression and definitely deserves attention. https://www.griddynamics.com/careers https://hh.ru/employer/802184

8.Yota

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 12
Russian mobile operator. The company is looking for Java developers, I managed to interest HR, I received a test task by email, but, unfortunately, the main emphasis was on Android, which I was not even told about during the conversation at the event. Based on the test results, you will be interviewed and then hired or sent for an internship. This is how the test task itself looks like, it is not at all difficult if you compare it, for example, with the Java Rush test task, but I didn’t waste time on it, because... My soul does not belong to android. Apparently, people are required who will support the functionality of the existing application for Yota clients. https://www.yota.ru/ https://hh.ru/employer/105904

9. Ready for Sky

The company is engaged in the concept of “Smart Home”, remote control of your home from anywhere in the world. Not only software is being created, but also hardware. Large manufacturers turn to them to implement additional functions in their household appliances. A fairly wide range of specialists is required. Java - android development. https://readyforsky.com/vakansii/ https://hh.ru/employer/1749693

10.Humaniq

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 14
Global innovative financial ecosystem built on blockchain technology (Ethereum). The company is currently developing a chat with its cryptocurrency. Very reminiscent of the idea of Pavel Durov, Telegram. The head office is located in London. They are going to open the first office in Russia, in Moscow. Remote work using Java - Android is possible. https://humaniq.com/careers

11. Semrush

Review of employing companies (St. Petersburg, April 2018) - 15
A transnational company that creates marketing platforms. The head office is located in Philadelphia. In Russia there is an office in St. Petersburg. I haven’t seen any Java junior positions with them; basically, they require people with extensive work experience, but sometimes vacancies appear. As with Grid Dynamics, a good level of English is required. One of the most interesting stands I have ever seen. We managed to farm a couple of funny souvenirs from competitions. I would gladly dupe it and give it to you, but the bug was fixed...
